Experimental analysis of the potential validity of Lorenzini’s hypothesis to treat COVID-19 patients

2021

The present research was aimed at testing the potential validity of Lorenzini’s hypothesis against Covid-19, based on the use of far UV-C rays directly on the patient’s ill lungs, so to significantly reduce the virus presence and with it the interstitial pneumonia, the cause of most deaths. Not having had the chance to experiment directly on the SARS-CoV-2, we shifted to a plant virus called TSWV, which has some common characteristics with SARS-CoV-2, so making our tests significant. The virus was suitably utilized so to affect an opportune range of pepper plants, after a treatment with 2 UV-C lamps, of which just one spreading far UV-C rays. Results showed that the effect of a quick exposi…

Does Childhood Temperamental Activity Predict Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior over a 30-Year Period? Evidence from the Young Finns Study

2016

We examined associations between childhood temperamental activity, physical activity (PA), and television (TV) viewing over a 30-year period. The participants (1220 boys and 1237 girls) were aged 3, 6, 9, and 12 years in 1980 and were followed until 2011. Temperamental activity was evaluated by participants' mothers at baseline. The PA was assessed based on maternal ratings of the child from ages 3 to 6 and via self-report age from the age of 9 across all measurements. TV viewing was assessed using self-reports taken from 2001 to 2011. The associations between temperamental activity and the level and change of PA and TV viewing were determined using linear growth modeling stratified by gend…

Early Modern Theories

2013

The notion of consciousness was used by early modern philosophers in various ways. In dualist ontologies, the nature of thought was often characterised with the help of consciousness: while matter was understood as extended in space, thought was taken to be that which is accompanied by consciousness. Whether the mind always thinks and whether mental activity in its entirety is conscious were among the questions which addressed the relation between thought and consciousness. The possibility of unconscious thought was generally overlooked. For example, Locke rejected the Cartesian tenet that we always think by appealing to particular phenomena which suggest that we do not always think, such a…

Requalification of the Tobacco Factory in Palermo with destination to social finalities

2016

From the Sixties and for many years later the construction of new buildings, both public and residential, has made our cities more and more large, with a great squandering of ground, pollution and reduction of the green areas. A necessary trend reversal has implied a growing interest towards the rehabilitation and requalification of the brownfields. These, both inside the urban fabric and in suburban areas, offer complexes of buildings with great potentiality for a sustainable reuse both from the social point of view and from the environmental one. The large dimensions, the great spans and the materials usually used make these buildings suitable to a recovery which makes possible a rehabili…
